Not sure about soft wood. It is an evergreen that has completely shed like a deciduous tree would. It is end of October. Top of shroom is kinda velvet/felt looking. We are in a campground. It is “roughly” 10-12 inches across. Maybe little bigger. It is growing in layers up and down the tree. Highest shroom at around 1 foot high. Thickness on edge is probably about .25 inch or ½ cm getting much thicker at back where attaches to tree.

Hi, this is a species of Inonotus, in german Schillerporling. This Inonotus grows probably not in Europe. Look at american litterature.
